Biography
Oga S. Abah is a Professor of Theatre for Development at Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria , Nigeria where he has taught since 1979. He is one of the leading theorists in Theatre for Development, an area in which he has researched since 1980.His current research has focused on the interaction of methodologies, especially between TFD, participatory learning and action (PLA) and traditional Social Science research. He has characterized this as ‘methodological conversation’. An extension of this is the interest which Professor Abah has developed in the interplay between the classroom and the field, between theory and practice, between development rhetoric of participation and the practice of exclusion. It is in this interrogative approaches that he has made his mark as a scholar, trainer and field worker.
Projects
Project - Yan bangas (Vigilantes), Violence, Exit Communities and Citizenship Prospects – part of 'Violence, Paticipation and Citizenship' Research Programme
Summary - The aim of this research is to understand who the yan bangas are, the dynamics of their life and relationship to the larger society. Study whether or not their activities contribute or fuel violence. Find out how exit/parallel communities form and the possibility of constructing and regaining citizenship of their communities and nation. This project is part of the umbrella TFDC proposal called Violence, Participation and Citizenship in northern Nigeria.
