Angela Alonso is a Professor of Sociology at University of São Paulo and Coordinator of the Environmental Conflicts Area at CEBRAP. Since 1995 she has been coordinating projects on environmental conflicts in Brazil. Currently she works on the Brazilian environmental movement . Besides that, she has a book in the area of historical sociology, for which she was awarded, in 2001, with the Anpocs (Brazilian National Association of Social Sciences) the annual prize for best doctoral thesis in the social sciences.

Summary - The aim of this research is to investigate, in a comparative perspective, the new patterns of local-global engagement of environmental activism emerging in Brazil during the 1990s.
