Biography

Vera Schattan P. Coelho is a political scientist. She is a researcher and co-ordinator at the Politics and Public Policies team of the Brazilian Center of Analysis and Planning (CEBRAP) in São Paulo , Brazil . Her interests centre on new forms of citizen participation, deliberation, and consultation to improve social policies and democracy. She is the author of numerous articles on health policy, pension reform, and participatory governance.

Project - Participatory Sphere, Democracy and Development in Brazil – part of 'Deepening Democracy in States and Localities' Research Programme

Summary - This research will explore the relationship between civil society and state actors in invited spaces related to development, water management, health, food security and education in four sites in different Brazilian regions.

Project - Identity Politics and Development in the Region of Vale do Ribeira – part of 'Deepening Democracy in States and Localities' Research Programme

Summary - This study aims to analyse the relationship between processes of social mobilization, participatory institutions and regional development in the Vale do Ribeira Paulista region in Sao Paulo state
