Biography

Sandra Roque is a senior consultant for Austral Consultoria e Projectos, a Mozambican company working on social and economic issues, and a member of the Angolan development NGO Acção para o Desenvolvimento Rural e Ambiente

( ADRA ). Her research has covered issues related to participation, development of local organisations and the relationship between state and society, in particular in urban areas. She is currently working on a PhD in social anthropology at the University of Cape Town , which looks at the integration of war-displaced people in Benguela , Angola.

Project - From Humanitarian Aid to Citizenship Participation: The NRA in Dombe Grande , Angola with Idaci Ferreira– part of 'Deepening Democracy in States and Localities' Research Programme

Summary - The aim of this project is to analyse the role of community based organisations in changing understandings and practices of democracy and democratic citizenship
